Massage is the quintessential topping. Traditional massage techniques teach how to manipulate, maneuver, stroke, and strike a body to get the desired results. While for the most part this result is pleasurable, the same techniques can be used to cause intense, controlled pain or discomfort. Fundamentals of massage will be covered, so even those who only intend to use these skills for less than nefarious purposes will benefit. |

Sufism is the spiritual dimension of Islam. The Sufi path is a rich
tradition in which practitioners attempt to draw nearer to the divine in our
lives. The Sufi practice of dhikr (remembrance) is an act of spiritual
healing that aims at self-discipline, concentration, and a fuller mental and
physical awareness of the divine presence. Dhikr, as well as other Sufi
practices, can allow the body to withstand great physical and mental
challenges, by using breath, word, and spiritual focus to process pain. This
class will introduce some Sufi-inspired exercises and demonstrate how they
can be used to process pain in a scene. |
